Finance Expert Steve Player Discusses How to Implement Modern Performance Planning in Tagetik’s Progressive CFO Series

Presentation will address the short and long-term steps large enterprises can take to move beyond traditional budgeting, technology considerations, and how to enlist support from stakeholders

Tagetik, a leader in global performance management software solutions, will host the webinar “Beyond Budgeting in the Large Enterprise,” the latest presentation in Tagetik’s popular Progressive CFO™ series, on Thursday, November 3, at 10 a.m. Eastern Time, 3 p.m. Central European Time. Steve Player, the North American program director of the Beyond Budgeting Roundtable (BBRT), will discuss the shortcomings and pitfalls of traditional budgeting and why dynamic, driver-based planning is required for modern business. BBRT is a membership organization founded to help companies improve bottom-line performance through adaptive control principles and continuous planning techniques.

The advantages of moving toward enterprise planning are significant. When done correctly, it makes the organization more nimble and better able to quickly respond to competitive pressures,” said Player. “It also integrates the enterprise by breaking down siloes and incorporating critical data such as sales forecasts, production planning, and workforce needs into a holistic view of the business.” Player is the co-author of Beyond Performance Management: Why, When, and How to Use 40 Tools and Best Practices for Superior Business Performance and Future Ready: How to Master Business Forecasting Beyond Performance Management.

Dave Kasabian, Tagetik chief marketing officer, will direct the conversation. The 30-minute interview will touch these and other topics:

  • Common problems with traditional budgeting and how it can sabotage a business
  • The importance of accountable teams, ambitious goals, performance-based rewards, and the identification of key business drivers in effective planning
  • Scenario planning to mitigate risks and take advantage of opportunities
  • The benefits of comprehensive planning technology
  • Suggestions for enlisting support and managing change

For large and diverse enterprises, the traditional budgeting process is obsolete. Besides consuming huge amounts of time, traditional budgets typically yield static, outdated information that too often has little relevance to business stakeholders,” said Kasabian. “More and more of our customers are embracing rolling forecasting, detailed scenario planning, and bottom-up processes that offer more relevant guidance and insight for managing performance.”
