Tagetik Cited in Recent Gartner CPM User Survey Report

Tagetik is on a roll, when it comes to positive research results.

Gartner just published an analysis of a recent survey of Corporate Performance Management (CPM) users and their satisfaction with their CPM software and vendor. In the report, User Survey Analysis: Customers Rate Their CPM Vendors, published August 22, 2014,  we were pleased to see that our customers put us in the top four out of the 16 vendors evaluated for overall CPM customer satisfaction in which the rating was based on a scale of 1 to 7.

While these results are very good, we believe the news is even better for large or complex businesses.

This survey analysis doesn’t differentiate between simple, small implementations and large, more complex ones.  Not surprisingly, the vendors that reported the highest number of users – where likely to have more complex implementations. While smaller vendors with smaller user numbers and – most likely – simpler implementations ranked high on satisfaction and value.  Based on these results it seems you have to be willing to choose between ease of use/value and scalability/complexity – with one outlier.

Tagetik, in our opinion, is the lone exception.  The megavendors have a high number of users while smaller vendors had fewer users and less expensive implementations. For large and complex deployments we believe Tagetik is the vendor in this survey that most effectively combines the ability to address the complexity of large deployments and scalability with a lower than expected cost to implement.

When reading any published research, it’s important to take the time to read between the lines and understand how any rankings are formulated and make sure you are looking at an “apples-to-apples” comparison.  For example, a small company looking for a basic expense planning application for 20 users will want a very different solution than a multi-billion dollar corporation looking to address cash flow planning, intercompany eliminations and regulatory reporting.

Just last month, Gartner issued a research report on the Gartner Critical Capabilities for Corporate Performance Management Suites (Christopher Iervolino, John E. Van Decker - 9 July 2014). In this research, Gartner rated vendors based on how – in Gartner’s view – products met the typical business needs of different-sized organizations. The logic behind this research is simple and very useful.

We believe this highlights the fact that CPM is not one-size fits all and CPM research should not be either. It is important to look at the details of any CPM research to apply the results to your specific business needs. If you can’t do that, you may find the research steering you in the wrong direction and that wrong path could cost your organization millions.
