Finance Expert Steve Player Discusses Role of New Technology in Planning and Forecasting in Tagetik’s Next Progressive CFO Webinar

Webinar presentation will addresses how cloud computing, big data, and mobile technologies are reinventing planning and forecasting processes and helping companies move away from traditional budgeting

Tagetik, a visionary leader in global performance management software solutions, will host the webinar “How Technology Helps CFOs Rejuvinate the Planning and Forecasting Process,” the seventh presentation in Tagetik’s popular Progressive CFO™ series, on Thursday, February 18, at 2 p.m Central European Time and at 2 p.m. Eastern Time. Steve Player, founder of The Player Group, a research and consulting firm focused on finance process improvement, will discuss how a range of new technologies and user-friendly tools are helping companies move away from the traditional budgeting methods developed almost 100 years ago.

The fundamental problem I have with budgets is that they are based on assumptions that typically turn out to be wrong. Sometimes the economy comes in stronger, sometimes it comes in weaker. The budget locks everyone into an annual cycle. We need to be moving much faster than that in order to have the agility needed in today’s business climate.” Player is the co-author of Future Ready: How to Master Business Forecasting Beyond Performance Management. He is also the North American program director for the Beyond Budgeting Round Table, a learning network with more than 60 corporate members in North America, and founder and program director for the ABM Advanced Implementation Group, a community of practice for the world’s leading ABM implementors.

Dave Kasabian, Tagetik chief marketing officer, will direct the conversation. The 30-minute interview will touch on:

  • What are the attributes of a good forecasting process?
  • What types of business issues can be solved with rolling forecasts?
  • What forecasting trends should progressive CFOs be considering?
  • What are the risks and benefits of embracing new technologies?
  • How do you build the business case for eliminating traditional budgeting?
  • What are concrete steps the Office of Finance can take to rely less on budgeting and move to more advanced planning and forecasting?

Too many organizations treat budgeting as a mandatory exercise, not as a process that delivers value. The goal of improving planning and forecasting can never be achieved unless organizations stop relying on spreadsheets and take advantage of the powerful tools and technologies now on the market,” said Kasabian.
