Narrative Reporting Demo

Ability to produce internal or external documents that combines financial, statistical and textual information.


Merely reporting in CCH Tagetik refers to the ability of producing internal and external documents that combine financial, statistical and textual information.

You can produce financial, internal and regulatory reports in a comfortable environment, either in Microsoft Word or Microsoft PowerPoint, leveraging 100% native functionality and native capabilities.

You can also eliminate bottlenecks, by enabling multiple users to collaborate together, by allowing them to work on the same document at the same time.

You can also streamline the process, by signing those same users to specific sections or even specific slides with different deadlines and administrators will always be able to monitor the overall document status through built-in workflow capabilities.

You can even update all of the financial and textual data in different paragraphs, in charts or even end tables, with a single click, or it can be even automated by the system directly.

All of this leads to one powerful capability which is the ability to establish a repeatable process, roll forward and refresh each reporting cycle with one single click.

Here's a basic example of a typical narrative report, in this case an annual report, designed using CCH Tagetik CDM.

It was built completely using Word in CCH Tagetik functionality and, as you can see, powerful and beautiful annual reports, can quickly and easily be created.

Not only that, but I can see on the left hand side of my panel, a list of all of the different document types already created for me, such as board books or even my 10Q and 10K for example, in fact if I expand on my 10K I can quickly see all of those different cycles or different versions of my 10K, if I expand on Q3 2014 for example, I can see the document structure, and the document structure is really the powerful functionality behind the scenes, that allows multiple users to work on the same document, because for one document, we break it out into four sections, and we will break out sections into items and items into individual notes, with all of these individual parts of the document, allowed to essentially be tagged to specific users so that individual end users know their exact responsibility.

Of course, if I'm a document owner of the entire 10Q, for example, I can leverage powerful functionality such as status charts for example and quickly see where everyone stands in the overall process, in terms of what work needs to be submitted, what work needs to be approved, and which work can be considered complete.

Of course, if I'm in charge of working on Note 3 - Investments & Inventory for example, I can quickly see my tasks or my individual responsibilities as a contributing end-user, simply by taking a look at my tasks.

I can click on my task, where I can quickly see all the different document activities I'm responsible for, with corresponding due dates and even the specific next action item related to a specific activity, really making it easy for our end-users to know exactly what needs to be accomplished when they access the software.

To get started on working on Note 3, all I need to do is double click on my Note 3 and my document will open up in Word right away.

One thing you'll notice is that I can start interacting with my document just like I would in a typical Word fashion, so to add a text for example it's as easy as just typing.

I can also analyze some of the financial information that we're bringing into different tables or different charts and even looking at statistical information as well, or even textual comments such as for 'nine months ending' or for the 'prior year' for example.

However, this isn't just Microsoft Word functionality of course, CCH Tagetik CDM functionality exists as well, and often times is related to that streamlining of the process, to really make this document automatic, so that when we roll forward our different variables and our different objects, will update right away.

To see what objects can update, I can quickly highlight all objects and everything in yellow on the screen here, essentially shows me exactly what can be automated through CCH Tagetik CDM, so expressions such as '9 months ended September 30th' will automatically roll forward, even when we produce our 10K at the end of the year, it'll save for the 12 months ending.

Of course different tables including financial data can be updated right away, and even statistical data such as 4.5% year-over-year variance or even textual information such as decreased for example, all of these things can be updated and rolled forward automatically by the system, or we can even update sections automatic on demand for example, so if I have a section such as this one that's really a pending note coming from another document or another section within this document, all I have to do to update it, is click update and right away I can see that the person that's in charge of this specific note in another section of this document, actually updated it with a new sentence and that sentence flows right away into my report.

This functionality also exists in Microsoft PowerPoint as well, and leveraging that same collaborative functionality in Microsoft Word, we can also create more visual, more appealing presentations in Microsoft PowerPoint, still with the same collaborative experience, so we can produce reports such as this one, create very simple, very visual PowerPoints, again leveraging some of the same functionality of CCH Tagetik CDM, except now we're Microsoft PowerPoint, leveraging 100% PowerPoint functionality, rather than Word functionality.

So of course, we can always leverage our document structure to have our end users collaborate together even leveraging that workflow functionality, or even with objects that can automatically be updated and rolled forward as we create new documents.
